Smarty Finally Adds eSIM Support – Here’s How to Get One

On This Page

eSIMs have been around for a while, but not every UK network has been quick to offer them. Smarty is now joining the list of providers that support eSIMs, giving customers more flexibility when choosing how to connect.

How to Get a Smarty eSIM

If you’re an existing customer, you can log in to your Smarty account and request an eSIM swap from your dashboard. Once approved, Smarty will send you an email with a QR code to scan for instant activation. If you can’t scan the code, you’ll also receive a manual activation code.

The process is simple and similar to other UK SIM-only networks, though for now, Smarty only allows current customers to request an eSIM. New users will need to order a physical SIM first, then swap to an eSIM once their account is active.

Smarty has confirmed this is just temporary – soon new sign-ups and group owners will be able to order eSIMs directly.

Why Switch to an eSIM?

eSIM stands for “embedded SIM,” which means it’s built into your phone rather than being a removable card. Not all devices support it, but you can check by dialling *#06# on your phone – if you see an EID number, you’re good to go.

Most phones with eSIM still have a physical SIM slot, so you can use one or both at the same time. eSIMs are especially useful because:

  • You don’t need to wait for a SIM card to arrive by post.
  • They’re easy to set up in minutes.
  • Perfect for travel – you can add a temporary data plan while keeping your main number active.

Other Networks That Offer eSIMs

Smarty might be a little late to the party, as many UK networks already offer eSIM support. Providers like O2, Vodafone, Three, EE, Lyca Mobile, iD Mobile, and Talkmobile are already on board.
